Induction lighting has many benefits over traditional fluorescent lighting. For starters, the induction lamp is able to function in a much wider range of temperatures, so no performance is sacrificed in heat or cold. The induction lamp is also capable of producing many more lumens in a single lamp, eliminating the need for multi-lamp fixtures. The induction lamp also provides extremely high color rendering index, providing a light that is similar to natural light, which is what our pupils register.

However, the greatest benefit to induction lighting when compared with regular fluorescent lighting is the lifespan. Traditional fluorescent tubes have filaments that penetrate the lamp to create the electrical current, and this is their weakest point. These filaments burn out usually within 10,000 hours, and the lumen output typically deteriorates rapidly after just 5,000 hours of use. In comparison, the induction lamp is rated for 80,000 hours of operational life, and maintains a steady lumen output throughout that entire lifespan. Imagine not having to replace a lamp for 10 years.

Induction Lighting

We have encountered factories that have considered the replacement of their existing HID fixtures with T5 retrofits before. While the proper T-5 fixture does have benefits over traditional HID lighting, it has severe drawbacks when compared with induction lighting. Induction lighting is more efficient than t5 fluorescent on a lumens per watt basis, which means you are able to save more electricity (roughly 15-20%) by using induction vs. t5.

Induction LightingHowever, as was stated above, the main benefit to induction lighting is the lifespan. Our induction lamps are guaranteed for 10 years: 5 years full warranty, 5 years prorated. Almost all t5 manufacturers have a maximum warranty of 2 years. That is because the rated lamp life of a t5 is 20,000 hours, vs. 80,000 hours for an induction lamp. In difficult to reach areas such as high bays, the replacement costs can be massive. For example, to replace a 1000 watt HID fixture, you would need a 12 lamp t5 HO fixture. When you factor in the lamp replacement costs and the additional electrical costs for the t5 compare to the induction lamp, the clear choice is to go with induction.
